I was wondering as to the means you guys use in order to disinfect your blade ware when you are in the outdoors, like for instance after you have used it to cut food and you need to have it clean for the next time.

little water and a bandanna....if I'm cleaning a critter i'd use an alch pad. than a litle water and an a bandanna

A quick wipe on my pants or shirt.

When cooking I do use soap and water (when possible).

And I have been known to use an alcohol wipe from my first aid kit before surgery.

Carbon is sanitary. Use charcoal. (After its cooled.)

I usually just wipe it on the grass or some leaves. I have no interest in disinfecting or sterilizing anything that isnt an open wound.

Usually, I'm satisfied with a rinse with water and a wipe on my bandana. If I'm cleaning fish or prepping messier food, I like to sprinkle my knife with charcoal ash, swish it in water, and then (especially if I'm in bear country) give it a quick splash of alcohol hand sanitizer.

All the best,

I remember reading or hearing about the moss on some rocks having iodine in them as to disinfect your blade but can't remember where I read it..

I'm a alch pad wipe or boiling water, then wipe on the shirt or pants type guy.. Will have to try and find where I saw that now...

wipe it on a sleeve or pants.
i have a seperate knife for fish, problem solved...
in bear, mountain lion, wolf and so on country i carry a fish sent covered knife and a shotgun with slugs..along with everyone else i'm with haha problem solved.

I have some alchy sanitizer if it's really necessary, but as so many others have already said (and I'm surprised how many of us carry bandanas) water and bandana.

One of the reasons I use an Alchoal stove is the fuel works as a sanitizer...dries in a heartbeat and nothing is going to survive contact with that stuff. I try to select gear that not only accomplishes my mission but also that has a multiplicity of uses...alchoal fuel certainly does that!

Douse the blade and scales with the alchoal after a washing in the stream first and it is cleaner than the day it arrived in the box.

About thirty minutes in an autoclave should do it for you. I'm pretty much like the other guys though; douse it and wipe it on my pants. If it's really dirty, I'll rub it with some ash and sand, then douse and wipe. I might sterilize more for brain surgery.
