Blade edge options, a question to Spyderco.

If there is a Native in plain edge, how about a Pro-Grip or Pro-Venator in plain edge?

Why not offer the plain edge option too at the time product was introduced? Marketing strategy?

IIRC they are on the way, maybe available already.

Don't worry that the world might end tomorrow....in Australia it's tomorrow already.

2d_edge - The Pro-grips will both be offered in plain edge.

We didn't offer them originally because at the time they were introduced, nobody wanted plain edge Spydercos. 80% of our sales were serrated or combo edge.

GREAT!! Thanks for the good news Clay and Sal.

What the stats now Sal, still more people choosing serrated edge over plain edge by a big margin?

2d_edge - On the collectible pieces, such as custom collaborations, the plain edge is running about half.

On the regular using pieces (Endura, Delica, etc.) the serrated version is still much more popular.

I know what the forumites think about serrations (in general they don't like them). But I think a lot of that is due to: 1) using someones else serrations (other than Spyderco) or 2) not needing to cut a lot of tough material. Also 3) forumites are much better at keeping their knives sharp so the need for serrations is not as great.

I know for my true workers, serrations are a must, and the Spyderco pattern is bar none the best I've seen or tried. Burned through 3 Enduras. Now that my daily life requires less of a need for a pocket chainsaw, I switched to plain edge for the more delicate "city guy" tasks i encounter more regularly. I remember I only thought Spyderco made serrated blades for years. I think great marketing, and specifically keen marketing to outdoor enthusiests and rescue/militay type professionals are a large reason so much of the buying public love serrations, especially yours.

I'm still waiting for a fully serrated Bob Terzuola Starmate . . .

Will that ever happen?

Bernie

Bernie - no plans for that. I guess if we get enough requests, but you're the first.

If you make it, I'm sure "they" will buy it!
