Why do plain edge blades seem to command more money than partial serrated or full serrated ones  Also what type of edge do you prefer and why?

i think a big reason is the non "knifenuts" like CE more so the companys make more of them, but the collectory and "knifenuts" like PE and we are the ones that buy them so they are worth more to the user and the collector IMHO, now i like a PE cause then i dont have to sharpen a second part of the edge special and i feel a PE works better for my daily needs from a knife

Supply and demand.

As for me, I prefer plain edges for the most part.

You must be talking prices on the secondary market mostly, because supposedly partial serrations outsell plain edged knives. I don't see this, though, since when I go shopping the plain edged models are out of stock too often.

Serrations have there uses, but I generally prefer a plain edge for EDC.

I suspect many agree with this, as the there is a selling price difference as you note, at least on the secondary market. Heck, sometimes a dealer has to lower the price on the serrated versions just to move them.

One of my favorite blades was the original BM AFCK it had a like a 70/30 edge with the small serrated section toward the tang, it came in handy many times while workin' in the yard, it cut many pieces of wire, rope and the old six pack holders (when they were more popular).

As far as what I'd pay more for and why, the plain edge is more versatile,(sp?) to me and done correctly, (the sharpened plain edge) for it's intended job will do almost anything a serrated edge will do, even a cheap serrated knife with a decent edge will excel at it's intended purpose.

In the end I'll always pay more for a plain edge blade done well, another factor in price is probably the ease of sharpening issue, although Spyderco and diamond impregnated rods pretty much took care of that.

I love full serrated and full plain, but as has been stated many times before, combo-edges don't have enough of either to successfully complete a cutting task. Many of my spydercos are full serrated, but most others (benchmade, kershaw) are plain edge.

I do not know if or why plain commands more money.

I do know that I prefer plain edge because I find them more useful.
