I got lots of points with my employer by steering him to the 'Petes custom shop'. Everyone at his family hunting camp uses a big old 110 (I know, I have to sharpen most of them).

The boss wants to present the members of the camp with nice 110s. He would like to know what blade (steel) would best show off the blade engaving? He does not give one whit about the various qualities of the different steels.... just wants a nicely engraved knife.

Help answer him, Please!?

OK, I have a number of Pete's 110's.

I think the best looking with the engraving is beadblasted 420HC. I'd also recommend the block lettering rather than script.

I see they currently want two lines, no more than eight characters each. That's silly, they've put my full name "Alan L. Folsom, Jr." on almost every knife (about 10) I've gotten from them.

And by the way, the bead blasted 420HC is probably my favorite of the group, it cuts like Don Rickle's tongue.

A Bead blasted finish would give a nice contrast to the engraving and make it stand out better. Any steel would work fine for that.

Thank you Mr. Houser. I really got the old brownie points for sending the boss to Petes!
