I just finished about 50 slipjoints while down in Mexico. 42-43 of them were sanded blade finish to 600 or so, not ground. They all sat on a coffee table in the living room until....one at a time...they were complete...about two months total. Today I decided to wrap them up as I am returning to St. Louis Friday. I expected a bit of tarnishing....but every one of the ground blades had a bit of surface rust and none of the sanded blades did except one that obviously had a finger print on it. Now....the house is about 30-40 feet from the ocean...but...sometime I have to be hit right between the eyes before I get it. From now on...only sanded finishes. I realize that many builders do not hand finish some steels as they are absolute bears to do so. In this case the majority were 52100 and a few W2. I had two CPM154 and they were not compromised at all as expected. Live a little...learn a little...and in my case...damn little! I would imagine that a mirror finish would be much..much better. I don't like mirror finished slipjoints but.......
