Blade finish seems off on my new Endura 4 w/ti-damascus

I just recently received my new Endura 4 and the blade steel finish seems blurry/smudgy on the base of the blade. I emailed Spyderco with pics and they basically said mail it in if I think it is a defect. Can someone who knows more please let me know if you think this blade seems like contains a defect or abnormal? My other damascus blades do not appear this way but I only have 2 others. Thanks for any feedback.

It should have a much more distinct etch. I'd follow their advice and send it in or send it back to the dealer where you got it. If they're reputable it should be a no questions asked exchange.

The blade and the tang both look a little odd. The lines on the blade are very straight. The dark part looks too dark and the surface texture looks off. The ricasso is way too blurry looking. I would send it in.

Here are two of mine.

Where did you buy your knife from?? The dark areas are raised almost like paint. If it legit it should meet spydercos QC, and I'm sure they will make it right for you.

In my experience, the etch used on Spyderco's VG-10 damascus varies considerably from knife to knife as does the pattern. I don't have the Endura, but I do have 2 each of the black and blue Nishijin GF damascus Stretches and the "dark" etch is near black on some and a medium to dark grey on others. I don't see anything wrong with your Endura and suspect Spyderco will find it within the normal range, but that's just one user's opinion. If you really don't like it, returning it to the dealer might be your best option.

I'm thinking it's not a "finish" problem, but lack of depth in grinding that portion of the blade.....thus not revealing the layers of steel one would expect?

The OP's example looks terrible like a fake!

The other Damascus examples in this thread seem to be Delica Titanium, Caly 3 CF with bolsters and Endura Jigged Bine with bolsters. My Delica Tutanium, Caly 3 CF with bolsters and Stretch Blue Nishijin all look fine.

I looked at pictures of the Endura Damascus Titanium on KW, BHQ, CS, KC and GPK. They all look better than OP's but not as good as the other models mentioned.

Here's a picture from Spyderco:

I'm also curious to know where this was purchased. It looks like fake Damascus that I've seen floating around too. None of our Spyderco Damascus have ever been that plain or etched looking
