Alright, I have stripped the coating off my BK10 and am now having a hell of a time finding a finish that suits that steel and my liking. Thus far:

Vinegar Patina - apple cider vinegar bath yielded a really uneven result. I diluted 1/1 with water. Maybe I need to go with the full-strength stuff?

Lemon Patina - not durable - was fairly even, but not deep

I've done mustard in the past, but it has always been rather uneven. I have looked around town at the various bluings available and I can only grab Super Blue and Perma Blue... both of which I have read inconsistent results.

I guess I'm looking at a more expensive bluing or gun kote at this point. Very open to suggestions... would love to put a decent finish on this before the micarta goes on!

Do you have access to a sand blaster? That gives it a very nice rugged look.

You mentioned bluing. If you like bluing (I do, but not everyone does), go talk to a gunsmith. They can either do it, or put you in contact with someone who can. Even a good hot blue isn't all that expensive on a knife.
