Heyz guys!!
I just got my Night Vision today and i liked it a lot....but what i would like to know is that is it true that blades with a bead-blasted finish are more likely to rust then blades with a mirror polish/satin finish??
cos i had quite a few bad experiences with blades with bead blasted finishes...

I am from Singapore, and due to my country's humidity, my blades tend to show some spots of rust on them after some carrying in my pockets...

Hi,

Great purchase! You will like that knife a lot.

I've been carrying a Vision now almost daily for a year and a half (current version is the Night Vision).

My guess is that you received an X-Ray Vision if it is bead blasted. The Night Vision is a brushed finish. And yes, a bead blasted finish can rush more quickly.

My suggestion would be to clean and oil your blade regularly...maybe even weekly (depending on use). Getting corrosive materials off the blade and getting oil onto your blade is the best thing you can do.

Thanks for the question. If you have anything else, please let me know.

Ron,
Thanks for the info...the one i purchased was the Night Vision, as i had had some bad experiences with blades with a bead-blasted finish...thus i opted for the NV...thanks for the info about it being a Brushed Finished blade...i always thought it was satin polished..
I LOVE the knife...it not only feels as secure and sturdy in my hands as my old emerson-benchmade BM975, but the NV has a much more ergonomic handle and is much more comfortable to use...i like the way you round off the g-10 handle corners rather then the way most others are done... having the sides cut at a steeper angle....as in their corners were still flat...whereas the NV's is curved...this little bit makes it much more comfortable........

p.s:i will be visiting London this december, and is it ok for me to carry the NV around?
will i be arrested for having it there??

thanks in advance

A quick addition on rusting and finishes ...

The closer to a mirror polish a steel surface gets, the more rust resistant it gets. Rust occurs when the oxygen attacks the intermolecular boundaries of the steel. The more porous the surface is the more surface areas and pockets are available to trap moisture, such as sweat. Sweat, incidentally, because of the salt content increases the rust rate.

In my particular case, my hands are really acidic, so I have rust problems with "rust resistant materials" all the time. So, if you have problems with it, you can try getting it polished.
