Blade for a friend in need

Had a chance to see a buddy of mine who has been away working at an environmental summer camp for kids. I found out he didn't have a blade of his own the whole time he's been out so I promised I'd mail one out for him. I figured nothing could be better for a first timer than one of my first blades, the buck 110. Hasn't been a regular in my pocket for too long and needs to be used so I sharpened and polished her up before I send her off this week.

Anyone else ever lent a blade to a friend in need? Do you think the buck will serve him well?

I gave a friend of mine an Emerson CQC7. He had crappy knives and I couldn't stand seeing him showing me crappy ones LOL. He was so shocked!
I actually left it under his pillow when I went visit him 5000 miles away. He couldn't believe I would do that ;-)
Good karma for you!

yeah the Buck 110 will serve him well....a little bit too heavy and doesn't have a pocket clip, but it's just a good blade.

not too long ago I ran into someone who had one of the old original 110s with the squared brass bolsters, it must have been from the 1960s, that just proves how long these knives last if somebody is still EDCing such an old knife.

I gave a sad and knifeless friend a kershaw cryo that he still uses. I think that 110 will serve well, and helping out a friend never hurts.

A buck 110 is pretty much the perfect knife for the job ( kids summer camp) because despite it's size it's not overly intimidating because it's so recognizable. Non knife people know it and view it as a "pocket knife".

Ah the classic 110. Great choice. I'm sure he'll love it nonetheless. Maybe send a multitool too, I'm sure it'll be more handy.

I love buying knives and giving them to people. I bought an orange Dragonfly and gave it to someone who had been intimidated by knives and was always asking me to cut something. That person is now a knife lover.

Great choice on the Buck 110. I hope he loves it. I really enjoy giving people knives. Lately I've been putting their names on them from a popular website we all know about that offers this service. Usually they are a big hit and like the look on their faces when they open the box and see their name engraved.

I have a 110 myself and carried it for years. I just got my brother in law his first folder. I got him a spyderco tenacious and he loves it.

I think the Buck 110 was a good choice for the summer camp setting. It should come in very handy if they are willing to carry it on their belt. I used a Schrade knife similar to the 110 as my work knife for years doing "environmental things". The other basic really useful knife is a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife (SAK). That's what I probably would have sent personally.

Thanks guys! Makes me feel way more comfortable parting with it. Those 110's and sheaths are beauties big haze! My only hope now is that he gets hooked and I'll have someone to talk/trade blades with! I did play around with the idea of buying him a Vic farmer, my edc, but I couldn't let the buck collect dust any longer. Keep the stories comin!

Times have changed, most of society is so domesticated now that even a Buck 110 looks like a weapon to them.

One time I was parked in a parking lot and I was fondling my Buck 110 and a lady saw the knife and the look on her face was like she saw a ghost.

I suspect it was the setting more than the actual knife. But they are not small folding knives either.

The 110 is great! It should be fine for him.

I gave a friend of mine a crkt m18. I work with him. He carried it a total of zero times. When I asked where it was the dooshnozzle said somebody's birthday came up so he gave it to him..... Never again.

that's similar to what happened to me, I gave a good friend from the neighborhood an Ontario Rat 1........2 months later I ask him about the knife and he said his girlfriend has the Ontario Rat 1 and then he pulls out an old made in China lockback with a broken tip and says they traded knives to each other.

Now I never give knives as gifts because most people are not knife nuts and they don't know how to maintain and sharpen them and don't know the value of certain knives.

Pretty much my logic as why I agree with the OP's choice.
