I want to send a friend of mine a care package, and I want to send a kershaw tremor with it. I was thinking a combo edge would probably be most useful to him while he was there. What do you guys think any former VETS please ring in...He is in the airborne infantry if that might sway you decision. Thanks for the input

I carried a variety of knives, but a becker bk11 is a great little utility knife that is hard to mess up with. it will open your mre's but its thick enough to snap ammo bands with. If your willing to spend a little more bank, the ESEE-4 is pretty much perfect for anything he might want to do. It takes up little space and adds little weight and its beefy enough for most any chore.

He will be issued a multitool. and most likely a folder so i would stay clear of those things.

More than a knife though which he can purchase what he wants, i would send comfort stuff like wet wipe packs, 4 hour energy, weight lifting supplements, tobacco and pornography. just imho

I recommend the KA-BAR Short Fighting knife with serrated edge and kydex sheath. It's small enough to EDC and open MREs and packages from home, and it is big enough to take a man's life if need be.

I'd stick with a folder. Those guys are already carrying too much weight as it is. A combo-edge sounds like a good idea. The serrations are low-maintenance, hold their edge for a long time and will add some oomph to a cut.

I dont have any experience with the Tremor, but judging from the pics, it looks like a good knife.

There are literally 100's of folders with a clip, large handle and reliable lock. At the top of my head i'd recommend the Spyderco Endura and Benchmade Presidio. But like i said, there are many brands and models to choose from.

I carried a crkt m60 while I was over in the sand box. I'd go with a small fixed blade or a beefy folder that can take some abuse. Maybe something from cold steels tri-ad lock collection. +1 to razsorsdescent idea of porn but you have to be sneaky about it, hide a dvd in a stack of cd's or something. Also captain morgan and the original lysterine are pretty damn close in color, I'm not suggesting you do anything illegal but it's amazing how if you slice the seal around the neck of a bottle of lysterine and then use a piece of clear tape underneath it to put it back together it can look like it was never opened.

I'm in theater and go on frequent missions with infantry soldiers. ESEE 4 is what I carry. It does everything I need it to. Great knife.

Also in theater (as a contractor.) I've got a Cold Steel American Lawman, and Spyderco Military. The Lawman gets more pocket time because it's got a more secure clip, and it's cheaper to replace if I lose it. I'd recommend against assisted openers unless your friend likes to take apart and clean stuff. The dust here gets everywhere and the more moving parts something has, the more likely it is to get fouled up.

Hey thanks for all the great info guys, I have an cold steel recon 1 tanto I think ill throw that in there.
