Hey guys,

So after several months, my girl has seen the light as to the usefulness of having a blade on your person at all times. It has therefore, fallen to me to acquire the desired bladed tool for her. That being said, picking one has been a slightly difficult process, what with how... discerning she is about her tastes. I have thus decided that I will fall on the mercy of the gurus of BF.com and see what insights you may have to offer. So, with that out of the way, here are the factors she's looking for in a blade.

- Spear/drop point
- Slim profile (in pocket and in relation to the blade width)
- Assisted opening
- Deep carry pocket clip

These are the basic wants that she listed to me. That being said, after showing her a few blades, she's been finicky at best. The options we have so far, are:

- Benchmade Osborne 943 (Last resort, and not assisted as far as I remember)
- CRKT Lift Off
- CRKT M16-01Z
- SOG Aegis

I've yet to show her the Aegis, but so far that one seems almost perfect for her wants. Still, the blade seems a little wider at the base than she would like. So I thought I'd ask you all for suggestions. She's looking primarily for and EDC blade, and emergency self-defense (TKD blackbelt she is. >.<) if needed. Which was what drew me to the Aegis after watching one of nutnfancy's reviews.

If there's anything you guys can think of, or if you vouch for or condemn one of the above blades, it'd be good to know!

Thanks guys. :)

Have you showed her a Leek? My gfs first knife was a Kershaw Scallion that she inherited from my "box of toys." She loves it, but is so darned small she wanted to get a new one. I have showed her quite a few and the one she picked out is the Leek with the pink anodized scales (its HERS it can be pink lol.) She LOVES it so far, and so do I, now I need one (just not the pink one )

BTW...the M16 01Z is not spring assisted either, the leek is though :D

Kershaw makes the OD-2 which is a flipper style as well as a RAM that are great knives. They arent assisted but they open just as smooth and quick. Also as shaughn said the Leek as well as the Shallot are great slim knives with assisted opening.

Kershaw OD 1 and 2, skyline, crkt ripple, spyderco centofante 3 and 4, leek, kiwi, most arent assisted but they can all be nice and smooth if she's willing to give any of them a try in sure shell like em, mostly just kept to the slimline profile since I look at a lot of those kind of knives too

I did show her the Leeks. I forget what the verdict on those was. I'll need to show her again. She wasn't too fond of the Kershaws in general though. Blade & handle shapes just didn't do it for her aesthetically. ^_^;;

That's right. Just forgot to add that to the post. It's a flipper though, so it shouldn't be that much slower than any assisted openers, once she got used to it.

Didn't get a look at those. But it looks pretty sweet. I'll get her to look at them!

The Ripple is actually pretty sweet. I think I'll get her to take a look at those, Spydercos are generally out. Not to her liking. And I'll need to show her the Leek again to remember what the verdict was. But those are all awesome blades. Thanks! :)

Kershaw OSO Sweet? slim, fast A/O, cheap, great bang for the buck IMO.

Now that DOES look like a sweet little knife. Pun not intended. I'll get her to look at it and see how it goes. Really liking the suggestions I'm getting so far. I may have to get some of these for myself if she doesn't want them! :x

I dont know how I forgot about the OSO Sweet. It is a great knife. There is also the Volt II although it is a little thicker in the handle than the OSO.

The twitch ii was my edc for over a year. Fan-dam-tastic knife, never had any problems with it. The aluminum makes it classy; I've gotten many compliments.

My vote is also for the Kershaw Leek. Gave one to my wife, and she carries it everywhere and uses it all the time. I've tried to get her hooked on Benchmade and Spyderco, trying out various different models of each, but she likes that Leek the best.

Does she care about blade length, or overall size? I also have the Operation Iraqi Freedom, and the Operation Enduring Freedom versions of those CRKT M16's... they're nice, but they have really bade steel (AUS 6), and need sharpening after very little use. I personaly would go with the Kershaw Skyline; Small, Slim, Light, Fast, Beautiful, and AFFORDABLE... what else could you want? Other than a steak... :D

+1 for skyline, thats what my lady carries.
Light, well built and keeps a nice edge.
Its a subtle knife also, good around the easily excitable.

Is there a budget?

When I think slim profile, I think of Spyderco. Para 2, Endura, things like that.

My favorite EDC is the HTM DDR Gun Hammer.

Benchmade HK might have some good options for her as well. I'm not a big fan of slim blades, myself, the slimmest one I have being my 14650. I like a wider blade, especially if I were going to have to use it for SD, which I can't imagine myself doing, because of all the troubles that causes, but if I had no choice, I'd rather leave a nice big hole in my assailant, rather than a little tiny one.
