Blade Geometry for a Backup Knife

I'm brand new to Knives and their Forums but I'll give this a try...For an absolute last ditch backup weapon for a Peace Officer (I am one), I would like to purchase a knife. Image is nothing-function is what I am concerned with. No knife fighting just my knife and I struggling for control over a gun perhaps (There are a lot of scenarios I can think of).
Quick access is important and concealability is something to consider so now the question...Does the above desired weapon need to be 1/4" thick with 10" plus blade? Is a dagger preferable or how about a Persian fighter? Neck knives are great but I think length might come into play (against a bp vest for example).
Pardon my ignorance but there are a lot of cops who think "it'll never happen to me" so I need to find some expert advice elsewhere.

Thanks

I feel this would fit your needs!! 8"OAL, 1/8"thick Cryo-treated D2. I make several versions of this knife. This is the Tanto point, I also make a full hollow grind. It resides in a heavy duty Kydex sheath that can be worn in several ways. This prototype has been through absolute HELL and still functions perfectly!
