i have a green 5OT which has the grind only on one side. being a way novice at this i was wondering what was the purpose of having one side ground and the other side flat?

I've only seen this on scissors. That is quite odd but it could be the saber grind I've read about on these forums. I know some types of swords use this type of grind. It's a bit rougher than a finished edge. Or it may simply be unfinished.

I have a thumb stud 5OT with green scales, and it is flat on the stud size. Maybe to keepp from cutting thumb upon opening?

I guess that's the way they are made. Makes me want to get one. Never seen a 5OT up close or with the thumb stud. Interesting.

It is not a sabre grind. It is just sharpened on the pile side only.

Are you talking about a Chisel grind?

No problem, glad I could help. I actually snagged that off another thread awhile ago. Not sure where it originally came from.

Thawk, Hedger, Delmas mine is the OTG green delrin scaled version.

I could not tell you why Schrade made a chisel grind on that pattern.
It makes no sense to me. It could have been much more popular if they had made it with a flat grind or even hollow ground the blade.

Is it possible that they figured the stud would be in the way for sharpening the mark side, in such a small blade?

i've tested the edge and it is not that sharp (my standard being can it shave the hair on my arm which is what condition all my knives are in). will work with it and see if i can get it in that shape plus try and take a photo of it to share. it does the the inner lock with the funny knob on it for locking. tried to show flat vs grind sides but hard to do. the third photo is of the flat side and the last photo is of the grind side.

Here's a schematic of that knife blade with the stud. Likely it was chisel ground for sharpening purposes as said above, but also if the stud side were ground, the stud would cant downward instead of protruding at a right angle to the knife, and the hole would have to be drilled at an upward angle perpendicular to the gring angle in order for the pin to be inserted. It just opens up a big 'ol can of worms:
