What type of grind is on a Randall Made Model #1 and a Randall Model #14? I have heard the grinds are "hollow sabre grinds" and other say they are "flat sabre grinds" (Is there such a thing?) I know very little about the grinds of different blades except that flat grinds seem to be the popular "utility" grind to have on a blade. I have a Mad Dog ATAK and it is a flat grind. It works wonderfully on most everything I use it for. (cut branches, dress out animals-though I wouldn't recommend it, dig, etc.) Thanks

The Randall #1 has a classic sabre grind. I believe the bevels are flat, not hollowed, so the entire thing would be: flat sabre grind

I know #16 is sabre grind (at least mine is), and #16 has almost the same blade geometry as #14. If your concern is the cutting ability, you can rest assure that Randall's sabre grind is one of the best that I've handled. It has almost no secondary bevel, which means the cutting edge is very thin hence cuts very well.

All newer model 14s and 1s are hollow ground. I just got off the phone with Dave at Nordic knives. Nordic Knives, however, has a custom made English Bowie that would, in my opinion, make an excellent field knife and fighter. It is much wider than the other "fighters" (model #1 and #14), but I like it. And it is FLAT ground...
Anyways, Nordic has excellent customer service and great place to order a Randall through. I should have mine on Feb. 15, 00. too bad I will be at MCRD doing pushups, pullups, and situps...
