Blade/handle coating stipping???

Hey guys, I have a couple knives with black blades or coated handles that I would like to strip either to just have a satin finish blade or to change the color of the handles. How would I go about stripping the coating on the blade or handles, best ideas?

To strip a blade, first remove the scales. Then, apply Zip Strip (or similar) to the part of the coating that you want to remove. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, and then use a paint scraper to scratch the coating off.

I don't think I've heard of zip strip before. What are some equivalents to that I could get at like home depot or lowes?
