Blade hardness

are you looking for a custom knife or production? i get mine between 63-65rc using 1075 carbon steel.

I've made them that hard out of power hack saw blades. For production I think some of the ZDP blades are that hard.

Boker's Leo Damascus blades range from 63 HRC up to 67 HRC, depending on the model. They cost a pretty penny, though.

AG Russell carries them last I checked. Cheers.

Some ZDP-189 blades are that hard, as well as some M2 hacksaw blades that are in that hardness range. I have a few in my garage that Sodak gave me, but I need some real power equipment before I can even think about making a knife out of one. I wish I could talk Tom Krein into making me a knife out of one, but that is a pipe dream. I don't know too many knifemakers that want to grind on an ugly old 66HRC M2 hacksaw blade then put their name on it. From those people I have talked to that actually made knives out of those blades their performance is incredible.

In addition to ZDP and M2, I thought that some of the ceramics were up in the 70's HRC. Boker made some, although I might not be remembering that correctly. They were extremely brittle, though.

Tempered at room temperature indefinitely!

Richard_J's fully-hardened blades in 1075 perform feats that make Noss4 happy and take edges that make everyone happy, so I wouldn't worry about brittleness too too much.

FFD2 is that hard - confirmed by Phil Wilson here if i recall. That hard yet easy to get really sharp. It is a joy to sharpen compared to S90V or 10V. Very expensive and only available from Diamondblade though.

Phil Wilson does. Bunch of Japanese makers do. Alwin Johnston did, can't contact him now though.
