blade hits spacer

Just recently I acquired a liner lock from a well respected maker and have found the blade hits the spacer.
No, I cannot return it to him at this time.
I have determined that to correct this problem (I have already cut down the spacer, to no success), that either the ball on the end of the lock needs to be repositioned, or the indent needs relocating. Relocating the indent seems the only option I would try myself.
So, I slap the blade on the drill press, and carefully drill an indent a few mm's below the existing one.
What do I look for? what are the problems I might incur?
Thanks for your advice.

blade hits spacer!
what exactly is this spacer you are talking about?
I would NOT do any of the things you have outlined above as you might wreck it beyond repair.....at least not until having an accomplished folder maker take a look at it. I am not saying you cant do it..just that is is not as simple as you say. Changing one thing changes everything.
Is the spacer the WASHER? or what?

The spacer being the small back strap that fills the space between the handle frames.
Located at butt of knife handle.
Titanium frame, titanium bolsters, Maston ivory handle slabs. 3&1/2" blade.

I know it isn't easy, but is there some advice one might give, such as a way to determine the proper location of the indent.
The ball and indent never fully meet on this knife, even when the blade edge is hard up against the spacer, the ball is not seated, only riding on the "incline" of the indent.
I figure I have a good eight of an inch or more room (that the blade tip could be raised) at the tip of the blade when closed before the tip rides out of the protection of the handles.
Alternately do you know anyone who might repair another maker's mistake?

You have a major problem. If you start trying to fix it yourself, you will really screw up that knife. It sounds like you purchased an expensive knife, don't mess it up. You need to get that knife back to the maker asap.

Thanks to all for your replies.
I guess I had better wait until the maker can repair it.

I am not a maker. But just from the info you provided, the blade pin stops diameter may be a bit undersized. A simple replacement pin and possibly some liner lock adjustment may cure the problem. And yes, send it back to the maker.

a bigger stop pin will change where the detent ends up.....If it is JUST BARELY hitting the spacer you could reprofile the blade slightly to fix the problem.....I would still get a knifemaker to do it.
