Brigadier
When I draw my pistol or Commander, which I only use one hand for clearance of concealment clothing and drawing because you don't know what the other hand may be doing, I snag the shirt and lift way up. I mean way way up, as far up as my hand can take it to clear either the pistol or the drawing of the knife.
Then I shoot my hand down and obtain the firing grip on my pistol or grip on the EKI Commander. So it basically looks like my hand shoots up back down and then back up to the same level as the first up. What this does is it is the same exact movements for the draw on only varies later on in the technique sequence. The same first move gets the drawing sequence reps in and you can become very fast.
Where it changes is when you obtain the grip. If you grip pistol your hand shoots straight up and you line up your wrist to line up the sights with the threat.
If you are gripping the Commander instead of straight up it's sorta up and back to snag the corner of you pocket.
If you do notice the blade half-cocked a slight flick of the wrist will usually take care of the problem.
How heavy is you concealment garment? It maybe too light to be able to easily sweep or swat it away.
Remember you also have a free hand. With that hand during the knife or pistol draw you could create distance from the threat with a well placed elbow while hustlin' the feet too. Distance and time are your friend in a confrontation. More Distance=More Time to deal with threat. But if you can't obtain the distance elbow become real good friends too
Confused yet? It's not too hard once you get some reps in. They're all large movements and I have done them against guys in FIST suits and Red gun (inert training pistols)
Give it a try, anymore questions just ask or email.

Oh yeah, if your gonna be practicing make sure you first do it with Red guns or if with a real pistol, don't forget to triple check that it is UNLOADED.
And it's also nice to train with Emerson's Commander trainer. No unintended holes in the wall or slashes on oneself
