Blade issue?

I purchased a new Spyderco Shaman SW S30V during the Christmas holidays. I didn’t really pay much attention to it until I received my RGT Skinny scales a couple weeks ago. Once I started going over the knife I actually thought the knife was a second. It had uneven grinds, blade play, and a weird finish on the blade. I worked out the blade play issue, and I’m not really concerned about the edge, as it will eventually get reprofiled. The finish look perfect when looking straight on at the blade. However when turning the knife at different angles you can notice a line which is perpendicular to the blade, top to bottom, on both sides of the blade. It’s as if you dipped the blade in paint halfway and pulled it out. The line is very distinct when looking at the blade at different angles, and the finishes are different on either side of the line. I can’t seem to photograph the difference with the phone but to the naked eye it stands out. I’m not sure if it’s just a Stonewashing issue, finishing/polishing issue, Ht issue, or grind issue. Just curious if anyone else has seen or experienced this? If it’s something to worry about? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

Seems like a slip past quality control thing. That's a shame because things like that bother me too. Also interested if it could be a heat treat issue?

My concern is a heat treat issue, there is a distinct Line and you would think you could feel it but the blade is smooth. But when angling the blade in the light you can definitely see a difference in the reflections.

It’s hard to tell from the pics, but I’d guess it’s the grind of the blade. The stonewashed covered up most of the grind marks leaving the outstanding marks visable.
Don’t know if that would affect the stability of the blade.

You could also try sending an email directly to Spyderco customer service and ask if such defect would be replaced under warranty?

Use it , quit looking at it
I'm all for just using it since knives are tools built to use but if that discoloration is showing a weakness in heat treat I personally wouldn't want the tip of the blade fracturing off and turning into a projectile when say pull cutting something with force

When in doubt, ship it out. Spyderco has experienced people who can determine if there is a problem...IF they have the knife in hand. Unless you can take a photo showing a crack in the blade, they need to see it in person to make an evaluation. Frankly, I don't think there is anything wrong with it, and I would expect to get it back from them in the exact same condition if I did send it in, but I'm not one of the aformentioned experts.

Thanks for all the replies. The knife was bought at a reputable dealer, not their fault just shipping a box.
I’m going to send it in, I’ve had a lot of knives from different makers over the years and none of them exhibited this type of issue. If the blade is within spec at least I can get the edge corrected.
