According to my Nov 2003 Blade, there is supposed to be a history and origin article on the Khukuri in the Dec issue. Anybody had a chance to get a read yet? Blade magazine is pretty rare here but if the article is any good, I'm planning to order that issue from the Krause website.

Cheers

Hank Reinhardt who wrote this article called me after it was submitted. He hadn't seen any of my research prior, but admitted it may have changed some of this article.

He was a big part of AC for years and it was thru them that he came to contact me. I am anxious to see what he has to say, but I have never seen this magazine out here in the "PC no weapons, no violence, no bad thoughts zone" of San Francisco. If anyone knows how I can get a copy I would certainly appreciate that info.

I'll start looking on my trips back east. Usually pick up one for Eric so will just get a couple extra and send them on. No problem. Here it is only September and we are looking for December stuff:rolleyes:

Thanks Mamav, I would appreciate that.

Why is this magazine so hard to find, or is it only distributed on the East coast?

I looked online a bit, but I could only find places to order year's subscription, and no-where which sold single issues...

I'll offer to pick some up when I go to the mag store.
If anyone's interested drop me a line and I'll pick up if/when available I could probably talk to the owner of the store and ask him to order a specific number of issues for December. Tho I don't know when he orders the December count.
Actual cost for the mag and the post cost. First class or how you wish :)

hehe... I guess THAT would attract a lot more interest than a article
on bent blades anywhere else except here where I'm not so sure...

honestly, for the price of the magazine, and it's content...
after looking at two issues i think it's worthwhile subscribing.

Some of the writers are dimwits, but for $20 a year you do get alot of knife content.

Boy oh boy! Isn't it nice to live in such a climate. My dad lives near Santa Rosa in a place called Windsor and in a gated community at that. It's easy to stick your head in the sand and hide that way but it doesn't make the outside world go away either.
Here in Nebraska most of the book stores carry Blade, Tactical Knives and Knives Illustrated (except Waldenbooks at the local mall). Guess we're not very politically correct here but we eat red meat here too!

John, if Mama or the Quackipus can't find the mag either post here or send me an email. I can buy them at Dick's News Stand here in Tracy, and send it off from work in Redwood City (just a hop away from you).

I'm interested to see what he writes about the khuks ~ in his article about knives of the world about a year ago he blasted quite a few ethnic fighting blade designs as being inferior. Jambiyas and kris/keris come to mind as some of the ones he mentioned.

Adios, stevo

So it does make it out here to taxland...good deal.

I'll make JC go thru the motions if he can get released from his special care facility long enough.

Thankyou all who offered to send me a copy. I'll be interested to see what he has to say also.

I think the Dec issue is due out in about two weeks.

There will also be a profile of knifemaker Ed Schempp, which should be interesting to all Mosaic Damascus fans.

Oh, my, Damascus. I love the look of pattern welded steel. I would love to have a Mosaic pattern Khuk for a display piece. (Read as a useable wallhanger) Yeah, I know, I couldn't afford one. But doesn't keep me from dreaming.:D
