Does the length of a blade effect the strength of a liner lock? I've seen some huge folders that have a liner locks and I've always wondered if blade length on a liner lock mattered. Are short bladed liner lock knives stronger than a 4+ inch liner lock??

I think the strength of a liner lock depends on the material of the liner, whether or not it has been heat treated, it's thickness and the actual lockup. I also think the design of the knife has an effect, as I have owned knives where you could unlock the liner just by hard gripping it.

I would like to think that knife manufacturers base the liner strength on the blade size and length and manufacture accordingly. I do think that the longer blade may encourage a person to get into more compromising positions than a smaller blade length which may effect the lockup.

Longer blade = more leverage on the lock so yea it has to be stronger for a longer blade.

position and lock geometry are more important than either blade length or the overall strength of the liner itself. Its how the load is distributed.

I never said it was the most important or only factor but...

Does the length of a blade effect the strength of a liner lock?

This was the question, and all things being equal more leverage is more force that the lock needs to oppose.
