I just received an old buck 301 from the 70's as a birthday gift from my uncle (used to belong to my grandfather). I really like this and want to buy a new one to edc, but I'm not sure about the length on the long clip blade. This old one is over 3" (I need under 3" in order to carry - stupid MI laws). But I read on the buck website that the 301 clip blade is 2 3/4". That is good, but can someone please confirm this?? I would really appreciate it because my local hardware store doesn't carry buck. It would be greatly appreciated, THANKS!!

I have a 301 which was made in 2009. I just measured it for you and the length of the main blade is 2 7/8 inches. I hope that helps.

p.s. I measured from the end of the bolster to the tip so part of that measurement is the tang. That may be how the Buck measurement differs by 1/8".

Yes, thanks so much. In michigan it has to be under 3" including the tang so that's why I never really know unless I measure it myself (the manufacturer measures usually the sharpened part only). Thanks again :)

I like the size of the 301, big enough for some heavy cutting (for a pocketknife). When you're at the hardware store getting a new one, pick up a ruler. They can come in handy for measuring blade lengths and other stuff ;)

The 301 is a great knife, Kube. It'll do most all of what you have to do, and is one tough piece of hardware.

Traditional Black Sawcut, or one of these.....your choice. Newest ones have the slightly rounded bolster end called the "comfort craft' series.

P.S. I went an measured half a dozen Schrade made and Cami made Buck 301s from the 70s (versions 1,2,3), only the very first Schrade(1966 -67) slighty edged over 3", all the rest were exactly 3 or under including tang.
