Blade length question.

G'day folks,

I was just looking through various sites, Spyderco and AG Russell and Bladeart etc etc, and a question occurred to me. I've thought of it before, but never got around to asking.

What's with all the 3 1/8 bladed knives (coughnativecough)? Is adding an extra eighth of an inch really worth making it illegal in all the 3" states?

Three and a half I can see, that seems to be the biggest lots of people are comfortable carrying. And obviously four inches (or close to) is the OTHER legality break.

But I can't figure out the reasoning behind being SLIGHTLY over three inches.

Any thoughts?

Take a hand, build a handle to fit it, make a blade about an inch shorter, to fit in the handle. Make a shorter handle, fit a blade in it ... oh, legality? That's a different matter. Spydercoughcough makes a few tinyknives to beat the length requirements, so I guess they waive that factor from time to time. :D You can't let the sheeple decide everything you do, or you'll only have very long and very short. What about us wishy-washy types who want a blade that's only a little bit scary?
