What is maximum length of blade that you can carry in your pocket which does nhot require any kind of license.

In the US, we still don't need a license to carry a knife. Hillary is now the representative for New York, so I expect even toothpicks will soon be illegal there. Most jurisdictions have varying laws on the books. I don't know of any place where cops shut down a whole street and everyone had to empty their pockets. Wisconsin had a 'procedure' where entire strings of cars could be pulled over, looking for dangerous items like drugs, assault weapons or Monica's diary. Blade length laws are used primarily by police as a tool to get an already out-of-control voter in Florida off of the street before he counts something important. Our police do not have dragnets simply for blade lengths arrests.--OKG

I think it depends on the size of your pocket. It's gotta be illegal to carry a Sifu in that little key pocket in your swim trunks -- you'd scare the sharks.

By the way, Hillary isn't just our representative, she's yours, too, in that very real sense that as a US Senator she does not vote on laws for her own state alone, but for the entire good old USA.

See ya in the gulag!

In regards to Hillary and New York, I believe it was Abraham Lincoln who said that a Republic will get the quality of government it deserves. Telling statement about New York; at least they still ahve the Yankees.

Also try doing a search in the Knife Laws Forum, which is under General Knife Discussion.

By the way, "blade length" is, unfortunately, usually not well defined. How blade length is measured depends on who's taking the measurements. Some officers and courts define blade length as the length of just the edge, while on the opposite end of the spectrum, some may include part of the tang in the measurment.

I have no idea as to the laws in the U.S., but in Alberta, Canada the maximum length for an otherwise legal folding knife blade is 6 inches.
Also, we can not get a license to carry an illegal knife for any reason.
