Heres a pic of the 9 3/4X 1 7/8 bowie/fighter that longrifle is making for me. It going to have a california Buckeye handle also. Oh and I asked that he does the Hi polish with the hamon line. His hamon lines look awesome so I definatley wanted one. I will keep this post updated with pics and eventually the finished product.

Looks like another winner in the works. Matt does some great work.

Roger

His knives just keep getting better and better.

Matt and I are on a very similar bladesmithing wavelength... lots of similar ideas... so I'm not surprised that I like the looks of this knife so much! It is really going to be slick!

Tell Matt you want it clay hardened, and not just differentially bead-blasted like the "authentic Japanese swords" from the Bud K catalog. :D

You mean you don't bead-blast your hamons in? :D

That looks killer Matt, much better than anything from that hack Nick!! :D

yeah he knows I want the hamon line lol, and I think thats how he does it, I've got faith in himl.

He already told me he wanted it clay hardened!!! I've got a choji pattern painted on... as soon as it gets dark I'll go toss the blade in some oil :). Differential bead blasting soundsd pretty sweet, it's going to be a race to the patent office, start running bud :).

got any pics of the choji paintjob? I have tried it on my last couple of blades and have taken careful watch on my heat, and it still hasn't turned out how I wanted.

Congrats on your in the works acquisition, you lucky bastid!
Matt's knives really pull my trigger also. :D
Doug

Just to keep the spirit of "in process" going :), here's the blade out of HT with a down and dirty etch.

The choji didn't come out as nicely as I wanted...it happens ;). I went with a modified gunome, which didn't come out too bad, the utsuri looks nice at least :).

I've been glowing about this block of amboyna I just picked up.

Amboyna is one of my favorite woods. That is going to make some nice handles.

It will be great to see how this knife turns out. It has certainly had a fine start.

i think I like the buckeye better but we'll see, Matt's hamons are awesome and the blade looks awesome as well. This thing is gonna be bad @$$.

That is exhibition grade amboyna!

I've seen amboyna with figured grain and a few eyes. Some people called it exhibition grade. This block has lots of eyes with figure between the eyes. Excellent wood!

I agree Chuck - that is an exceptional piece of amboyna. That block of buckeye is also pretty slick. I just love a quality piece of wood on a custom knife.

Roger

I, too, am a wood freak, and that is some slick wood you have there. Where'd you get it from? Ive been working mainly in ironwood lately...have about 3 sets left of the most amazing stuff I have ever seen, but I may save it for something special....

Here are some pics, the final polish isnt done and the utsuri isnt showin in these yet but its good pics on how its gonna look, I think I am gonna go with a fighter gaurd like on his last one. We'll see. I should do a vote lol.
