It was just announced that the Benchmade Nagara won the Blade Magazine 2009 Imported Knife Of The Year®.
I don't own this knife yet and have frankly seen VERY few reviews for it but I am hoping to get mine very soon.
I'm quite keen to know what other knives it beat out in the competition. What were the judging criteria? Is this less an award for quality or more a publicity stunt to stirrup hype and thereby sell more knives?
Frankly, I don't know how seriously a knife enthusiast should take the "word" of Blade Magazine. Many people, including myself, publicly feel that the overall quality of the publication has gone downhill for several years. Half of the magazine's pages are filled with paid advertisements designed to sell us "junk" and the few articles left are rarely "new". They are lazy rehashing of popular articles from years gone by.
I say all these things not out of anger or slander. I say them publicly as an American patriot who fought for my right to do so! All I want for my fellow American citizens is to enjoy freedom of speech and truth in the words. I pray that we all will not need to read lies created only to make the rich, richer!
Ahem.
