So a friend made me a deal....I shamed him into becoming a paying member of BladeForums, and I would in return become a subscriber for a year to Blade and Knives Illustrated...which I did....still waiting for my Knives Illustrated subscription...Blade? Have gotten 4 issues so far...not impressed, overall. Much as I love Steve Shackleford, and I do, bigtime, it was better when Bruce ran it and KP had nothing to do with it....that said..

The Piece-by-Piece section by Pat Covert on Stan Wilson on page 36 is stellar. Great photos and what workmanship! I'll go on record as saying I don't like the B-52 knife design and am highly suspect of how much tensile strength the key cuts in the black pearl actually have, but I sit in awe of Stan Wilson's machining skills and overall creativity, and plan to spend some time chatting with him over a pipe at Blade this year. This knife has 52 components that make up the construction, including some very trick parts.

Check it out.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I have to say I am pretty impressed with his quality and for some time I overlooked it since I developed a hard-on for sole authorship stuff.. But I think if I choose materials that suit me he would be a great man to make a folder. The folders I have held were incredibly well built as far as I can tell. The details in the Blade mag article are a bit over my head.. but what can ya do. I am fond of his advisor model.

I met Stan a couple of years ago at the Blade Show. Before that, though, I had "cold- called" him with some technical questions which he was very open and helpful in answering. So, he's not just one hell of a super talented maker, he's also a great guy. His fit, finish and design are outstanding. Like most folders, you really have to have them in hand to appreciate those qualities.

I talked with him at Blade last year - he is a very nice guy! Explained how he did certain things with his knives, and I gave him advice on his hand injury !
( he was all bandaged up !)

his stuff is "non-conventional" but beautifully crafted

I agree STeven. I noticed the article also. Some of Stan's designs are not my favorites, but I spent some time chatting with him at Blade a couple of years ago and handling some folders. I was AMAZED at the smoothness, fit and finish. It was a pleasure meeting him and talking knives.
