Schweet, very schweet Mitch!

Mitch,

There seems to be a striking similarity between the Ken Onion Boa and those DDRs.

Its really amazing that two people who live so far apart can come up with such an amazingly similar design!! :p

Hi Ken,

Yep, those flippers are cool things. I remember seeing it on a folder at the Blade Show in 1988. It was an antique friction folder, circa 1885.

A couple years later at the Blade Show, Mel Pardue had a flipper on a liner lock folder.

If you like flippers on folders I've got them in bound from:

Greg Lightfoot
Brian Tighe
Darrel Ralph
John W. Smith

Sold a Carson with a flipper last week.

In the 90's I sold several folders with Flippers from Randall Gilbreath.

As Ken knows I've sold a couple of his with flippers as well.

Good ideas always get revisited. :)

Like Les says the flipper has been around for over 100 years! Kit, Darrel and others have just brought it back with style and a flair all their own.

Hey Ken
My cat head bolster front end shape and revcurve folder blades caught on in your style and many others. Many of my art knives from 92 have them the cat head and recurve blades ;).
You started in 94 wasnt it?

As for the flipper its been around since the 80's
Nothing new. Kit (crkt) brought it back into the lime light.

The best and freshest flipper design in recent years is by Mike Lamprey . We colaborated on the S&W HRT to bring it to the forfront. Mike makes custom designs with it ,as do I.

Actually I started in 1991,as far as a cat head front end ,if my knife has a similarity to yours it was purely coincidental and not intentional I try to be as original as possable thats not to say that some part of a knife I made hasn't been done befor as that is nearly impossable just by the shear number of knives in existence. Case in point Jay Harris has been making a flipper like your Mad Max for years .check it out for yourself.

I acknowledge that the flipper has been arround forever.I don't know who invented it but my hats off to whomever.I never said I invented it . My style of flipper however is different by design than those of the past .Show me a picture of one like mine prior to me.And I will yeald my position.Yes Kit and CRKT came out with the first flipper knife that I know of and it's a great knife no arguements there. The boa came slightly later and significantly different than Kits also contributing to the popularity of the flipper. I don't even know why I'm repeating the obvious.
I don't know why I'm playing this game .My initial comment was a complimentry one and if not taken as such sorry!
I didn't start this thread. I don't care if your flipper is similar to mine .Have fun with them they work.

Ken
I was part time in 1987. I remember many of the designs from then.

Please understand that The EDC knife with the Flipper was designed at Les's request. I guess the style lines of many knives just float in the air and folks pick up on them.
Im glad your design works for you .
My intent was not to cause a problem.
Just get the history straight for Mitch.

Lets make knives and have fun!

Has everyone gotten their November issue? I'm missing a couple others I never bothered to complain about, but I kinda want this one!

I hate to call / write too soon.

Mike
