What is the best way to protect my beautiful magic stone mirror finish? What do you guys use?

Thanks
Roger

Roger, I use a number of different products, but the one I probably use most often is Simichrome Polish.

I've never heard of that. Is it like Flitz?
What type of store would carry it.
I have light oil on my Chainpuri right now, but I always have to wipe it off when "playing".

Roger, I think it's the same stuff, but I could be wrong. I was wrong once before, back in the summer of '54.

Marine TuffCloth on all my knives, and never had a rust problem yet.

I was using a teflon-based lubricant/protectant similar to Rem-Oil. It worked, and I never had a rust problem. However, I've recently switched to Turtle-Wax Chrome Polish (not sure if that's the right name, but it is a chrome polish, and it's made by Turtle-Wax). I get it at Wal-Mart. It seems to leave a thicker dry film coating on the blade than the Rem-Oil stuff did, and it doesn't seem to wipe off as easily as the Rem-Oil. You can keep on dry wiping the blade, and it still feels "waxy". Rob Lefebvrj introduced me to it. Thanks, Rob.

"President Clinton learned there were 100,000 cattle guards in Colorado. Since Clinton was so upset with ranchers' protests over his grazing policies, he told U.S. Secretary of Interior Bruce Babbitt to fire half the cattle guards immediately. Before Babbitt could proceed with the President's wishes, Colorado representative Pat Schroeder intervened with a request that before any were fired, they would be given six months of retraining."

Steven,

Does the "Simichrome Polish" you're referring to come in a tube? If so, I believe it is *Happich* Simichrome Polish, and not Flitz.

Both are available in my local hardware stores. I currently use Flitz, but both have worked very well for me. I believe the Happich is also sold by AG Russell.

"In use," Tuff-Cloth still gets my nod ...

Glen

Glen, thanks for the clarification. The stuff I use is made by Happich, so it is not the same as Flitz. When I finish the tube of Simichrome I'm presently using, I guess I'll have to try the Flitz.
