I leave from home at about 8:00 on Friday after giving the cats an extra scratch and dealing with separation anxiety from my two new VAC mono tube amps.
I get on the plane and then sit on the runway for an hour while they file a new flight plan.
Arrive in Atlanta late and call Porkerson to get dinner instructions. I get lucky and fine a cab drive that drives fast enough so that I can stay in the back seat on not go up there and step on the gas for him.
Dump stuff at hotel and make my way to dinner.
I walk into a dinner party of about 75 people I have never met. Although I have testified in more than a few trials there is something intimidating about a social gathering where you don’t actually know anyone.
But I get lucky and get seated with Gravelface his family and a few of his friends… great people:thumbup:. Samantha from Busse joins us in a few minutes. I eventually get over the jitters and make my way around to introduce myself. I am of course packing truffles to facilitate the moment. I figure I’d need them to keep Amy quiet long enough to allow me to actually say my name. I start with Amy because well… I figure she’ll be easy. I was right. I get a huge welcome and my heart rate falls under 170; then I get up the nerve to go introduce myself to Mrs Skunk; as you might expect she just looks way more interesting than Mr Skunk, I say high to Skunk while I’m at it and Randucci too. Back to my table for a Martini…. next Cobalt (I needed the drink for that one) and his trophy wife; then next the man himself Jerry. On the way back David Brown and his little friend (now "Hog Butcher"), Progunner, Raden, and I don’t remember who else.
I do know that I never managed to introduce myself to Jennifer Busse and I’m sorry about that. But hey there is the reason for Blade 2008.
I end up hanging out with David Brown, ResinGuy and all the other Busse people at the Waverly… long story short in bed at 5:28 a.m.
Saturday:
Up at 7:30 pack up to move into the Waverly Hotel and make the 10:00 feeding. I don’t score in the first feeding… I get trampled!!!! I get up dust myself off and pretend the Hogs are the IRS and those knives are poor old ladies that I’m trying to keep from their clutches. I end up saving seven old ladies over the rest of the day; a good day, but this time they charge me $3,000 for six hours work:grumpy:
.
Then we start drinking…. Induction dinner… more drinking. I head to my room at 3:25 a.m. shower, pack and nap for about an hour and head out to meet the airport shuttle at 5:30 a.m. The Hogs I left at 3:30 a.m. are still there drinking
… so one more scotch before I head out.
Summary: I have had occasion to meet a lot of people in my life but all the people I met through Busse at blade are a class act – yes surprisingly.... even Cobalt. I enjoyed this trip and I look forward to seeing everyone I met again and also those I didn’t meet.
I want to thank those that made me feel so welcome in the first few hours of my visit, Porkerson, David Brown, Amy and Gravel face:thumbup:.
Blade is best summarized buy this: Hotel bill about $425 for two nights; which is about $100 an hour for every hour I spent in the room. The people are that much fun... I never wanted to go to sleep and miss anything.
Next year I’m just staying with a hooker working the hotel for those four hours
. It might be cheaper but I’m not sure I’d have any more fun.
