Usually these indicate that the knife was sold as a seconds i.e. was returned to the SFO with a defect of some kind and sold during the annual seconds sale.
I have similar nick on my Cara Cara 2, not as obvious though.
Is there such thing as factory second for Byrd line?
If there's, and mine is one, why & how it ended up sold as bew on Amazon?
Other than that, the knife seems to be ok. I can't find anything wrong, except of a bit of hollow curve on the spine that makes it look like a stretch than Endura. Nothing wrong with functionality at all.
I'm having problem getting BB link, will post when it works.
Edit to add:
Not as clear as OP photo, and more obvious from the back rather than side view:
Geobar's Szabo is definitely a factory second. As for Chris' Byrd, I'm fairly certain there are factory second Byrds, but while that's probably where a "second's notch" would be located on one, I'd agree with Lance that the "ding" in its thumb ramp does not appear large enough to be one.
Thanks. I was wondering because from reading other people's experiences, sometimes they can't find any visible issue with the knife that has such mark. So I take it that for a factory second, the mark would've been larger & should be visible from the side view.
