Blade off center when closed?

Ok, my gorgeous Calypso Jr is really nice, except that the blade is off center. What causes this and can it be fixed? (doesn't rub, just looks weird)

I bought two and they are both like this. It doesn't bother me, but there's a way to fix it that I've read on this forum. I think it involves holding the handle in something like a vise while the blade is open and locked into place, then bending the blade to the side just a bit. Maybe someone can post the exact procedure.

garageboy,
when I spoke to mary beth of New Graham, she told me that all the calypsos they had were off-center. so's mine. nothing to worry about, even if the blade rubs the frn, as there is no liner to scratch it.

i think tapping the pivot pin a little bit with a rubber hammer may help, but I'm not doing anything to mine. it's great.

My black Calypso jr. has the same thing. Looks to me it's a bit curved. It doesn't touch the handles, though.

Several years ago, I asked about this with the black FRN Calypso, Jr. Sal said he had to do with the heat treat of the VG-10 (as I remember). I don't consider it a defect.

If you can stand it, you can put the clip on the opposite side. That will bias the bend of the blade a little (if it is rubbing).

Mine is a user and I don't feel it's a problem as long as it doesn't rub on the scales.

Wonderful little laser cutter, isn't it?

My Calypso Jr (carry, not the one in storage at the moment) is perfectly centered, I guess I'm lucky. I've seen some FRN models off center, but they don't cause problems.

And the blade is dead center. Resting peacefully and perfectly just as the best Spyderco knife EVER KNOWN should be.

;) :) :D

I checked out this issue over at the spyderco house forum. it seems that the whole blade is ground off-center, rather that the blade being positioned off center. someone posted pictures showing the off-center grind quite clearly.

haha, as long as it's not rubbing the handle, it should be alright.

I think the problem with the off-center closed blade is related to the flexing of the plastic scale.
I noticed my blade was centered until I took off the clip & bent it slightly to make for a tighter fit & when I put the clip back on, the blade was off center. I took the clip off again & see that the blade is close to center.
I can also squeeze the handle & watch the blade move to center.

Received mine today from Steve Hamilton on E-bay (Good vendor, by the way). Except for a tiny bit of flash at the end of the handle, the piece is virtualy flawless! Blade is perfectly centered. So light weight! I will be carrying this little jewel at all times! Wonderful design overall and so freakin' sharp out of the box (how do you guys do it???). Again, just what I have come to expect from Spyderco- the best value out there, bar none:)

anyone know where else I can get the calypso jr other than NGK? I don't want to pay more than $41 for this knife. Looking for a good realiable seller who can use my preferred shipping ie USPS.

I got my first one from NGK, but am thinking of a second one for my father. I would like one without the blade centering problem.

anywhere else? cos bestknives' shipping option, as seen on their website, is VERY expensive for me. I wonder if (Mike?/Mark? of best knives) can use the cheaper USPS prepaid envelope for me.
