Blade opening options for a Spyderco Police?

try this one, one of my faves! you just depress the lock with your index finger, and flick. just like your axis-equipped knives, let go of the lock before the blade is fully extended.

*comment from the peanut gallery* I don't really see the point in all of these relatively complex opening moves for a one handed folder, at least not in a "tactical situation". Before speed I think it's more important not to fling the knife by accident 30 feet away when you try your super whachamacalit move. The hole drop is about as fancy as I'd get, and only if it's something you practice alot so that you can't screw it up.

** edit: mind you, that's only if your thinking of using these opening moves as anything more than self entertainment. I try various speed openings in my free time, but always go to the thumb+stud/hole when I actually have to use the knife. Depressing a lockback whilst you flick the blade open doesnt seem like such a good idea to me, especially on a spyderco police, stainless handles aren't the grippiest things in the world. **

agreed. while i've never not been in control when opening my knife this way, i also would not use this method in an emergency situation.

you'd be surprised. i mean, i wouldn't sculpt a statue out of Crisco right before reaching for my SS Spydie for a flick, but i've never lost a knife while doing this. ever. the handles on my Endura are surprisingly grippy. of course, i reside squarely in the camp of SS lovers (Endura, Leek, Kiwi), so i'm very accustomed to the way they handle, even when i'm flickin' 'em to & fro.

always exercise caution when playin' with your blades, of course.

I've actually passed up a few nice deals on the SS Police knives because of those stainless handles, I have a few stainless handled folders, but they all reside in the camp of gents knives and not something I'd want to use if my grip was sweaty or if I had oil on my hands. I may pick one up someday just for completeness, it's a real spyderco classic, and just doesnt look/feel the same in G10.

You could use the down reverse grip method also. With the police model, be careful because the Stainless Steel can fly out of your hands EASY. Also using lots of openings like this can slowly give the knife blade play. If you are interested in lots of practical ways to open folders, you should check out Michael Janich's video "Fighing Folders" it is really good and seperates fact from fiction.

agreed. this one's fun too, but i feel like the motion is really hard on a knife. i do it now and again, but it can be difficult to snap it out gently using this method.
