Just a question for the group. I purchased a limited edition endela from knife center

The blade steel was new to me (Hap40/SUS410) and I preferred the 20CV from my other limited edition endela with the zome handles. I took the 20cv blade out and put it in the Knifecenter pakkawood one.

After making the switch in blades I noticed there is some small front to back play in blade. It is small but still bugs me. I was going to switch back blades but already sold the zome handles with original blade.

My question is if I should try to file down the tab that the lock fits in to? For some reason I think the opening where the lock catches is slightly off. I can send pics if anyone knows what I'm talking about. I can live with this if I have too. But woild like to find a way to get this to lock up tight (no play) like all of my other spydercos.

Cheers!

I would caution you not to mess with the locking geometry. If you're not experienced with tuning locking interfaces, you're almost guaranteed to make it worse. You can post some pics on imgur and share the link here, but that advice holds regardless of what the issue is.

Edit: removed recommendation to return it, I forgot that you did a blade swap.

Something else I’ve experienced with Spyderco is the pivot pin is not symmetrical; the flat to keep it from turning is on one end only. I’m not sure if all of their designs will be like that but it’s something to check.

Did you swap only the blades or did you swap the lockbars too? If you only swapped the blades, I think you know what you need to try next...
Yup, only blades. And unfortunately lock bar of the blade I'm using doesn't fit with this version (it has steel back that won't fit original lock. I figured I was SOL but wasn't sure if there was any other options. The play is minimal and I guess I'll live w it. It's what I get for thinking I'd like 20cv over the original.

As an aside I did purchase the k390 version and tried switching blades again to see. Same issue. So it's just that specific model apparently has a specific lockbar. It's a shame I sold it before I could get a good look or I would try to recreate it somehow

Scale swap don’t blade swap
True, but this is a special version of the endela that has steel liners and back and the wood scales only work on this model. So no way to change the scales. It's what I get for thinking i was smart and getting a unique knife with a different blade steel.
