I purchased a brand new BLK/BLK PM2 about two weeks ago. I was flipping it a couple of minuets ago and just for the heck of it checked the lockup. And low and behold it has developed some forward to back play. The lockup was solid when it arrive and I have hardly done anything with the knife. I have another PM2 that have have had for about 6-8 months and the lockup is still solid. Is this something I could send into spyderco for warranty?

Wouldn't hurt to call Customer Service.

Even if you just send it in, they'll either fix it, replace it, or just send it back.

You should check if there is a screw loose on your stop pin, i had the same problem after a few months... ;)

That sounds like typical break in but I think your aware of that, Did you try tightening the torx screw? If that doesn't do it I'd send it in.

Well I tried tightening the torx screws but it didn't work so I just mailed it in to spyderco. I have other knives to carry so I don't mind being without one for several weeks.

I've noticed some up and down play on a few pm2's and found that loosening the screws on the stop pin a bit and rotating that stop pin 1/4 turn and then retighten the screws will cure it. I think that sometimes those stop pins may be ever so slightly out of "true" and allow for some wiggle to occur. Rotating the pin gets you to a "fatter" part of the diameter which takes up the slack where the blade tang meets the stop pin. Just my 0.02 but it's worked everytime I've done it. Hope you get it straightened out!

I've never experienced up and down play on any pm2. I think it's good that u sent that one in. They will take care of you.

I had a slight amount of up and down play that developed recently on a user pm. I used some wd40 to clean some gunk out of the pivot and off the stop pin and the play disappeared. Didn t have to disassemble it.

I would have thought this was the problem but since I only carried it once or twice I didn't think that the play was due to gunk build up

This X100. Sometimes I'll have to fiddle with a Spydie. I just got a Native 5 and had to fiddle in order to center the blade. It wasn't rubbing the liners or anything, I was just being nit-picky. However, sometimes you get something and it screams don't fiddle! just send it in! . I usually classify bladeplay, especially if it's really noticeable, as such an issue. They'll make it right and then you'll fall in love with it
