when I open my ZT, even as fast as I can, I has a bit of horz. and vertical blade play. I have determined that the problem is the lockbar. it locks, however it has the blade play. Now if I press the lockbar over more, the bladeplay is gone. I tried to adjust the pivot, but that still doesnt fix it. What can I do?

If there is problems with the lock bar engaging properly the best and easier fix would be to call ZT. They will stand behind their product and get it fixed for ya.

This is kinda strange, I think this if the first I've heard of lockup problems on the 300 series.

Ive tightened it up to to the point where it wont open without me pulling the flipper very hard.

Maybe it is your opening method, trying to open just building up pressure on the tip of the flipper, and not the whole flipper.

I've noticed the same thing on mine, but that's when I'm really cranking on it to see how well it locks up. The thing that is causing the blade play is the frame lock, when you aren't holding it you can cause the blade to move because it causes the lock to push out a little which causes the blade to move. Try putting some graphite on the lock where it meets the blade it might help it lockup further on the blade. Also take into consideration that sometimes you just have to break in your blades for them to lockup better.

If it has excess blade play even when the lock is pretty far over on the blade then you should call customer service.

I've had bladeplay issues with ZT302 too. Just send the knife back to ZT/Kershaw as their CS is excellent.

Mine has always been rock solid so I would definitely send it in so they can make it right. I have heard great stuff in regards to their customer care/service. :)

I had to take 1 of mine apart when new and bend the lockbar a little to get it to lock tighter.

On mine the lock wouldn't move far enough over to fully engage the blade tang. You could even hear the lock resonate with a "twang" sound after the knife was opened, so it obviously wasn't contacting the tang fully which sounds like what you are describing.

No problems since I bent it a little more. Sending it in is recommended, but I was comfortable fixing it myself.

Regards,

You can do as B in B suggested as it is probably what would be done at the factory. I have done this a few times with my own knives and never had a problem. Just be sure you bend it only in small increments and when bending you dont have to use a lot of pressure.

The last 300 I bought had problems. The assisted opening would not work, and the lock would unlock with no pressure. I hope the quality is not going down.

Did you buy it new or used, and KAI has one strict quality control, but I guess a few get by them every now and then if it was new.
