recently i got a CRKT point guard large with half serrated blade. the more i play with it the more i notice side to side play when the blade is closed. once open the lockup is solid it is only when closed that the play is noticable. is this a common problem with the point guards? should i consider taking it back or is this relativly common among these models? i ask because i also own a CRKT M16-14 and that sucker is solid no play at any time

i know these are not expensive knives but just wondering if i should be concerned with this. i know a small wrench can be used on it so should i just tighten the screw down that is over the blade pivot point? just a novice so any help greatly appreciated

Do a VERY LIGHT spine whack test. If it closes up, return it right away. I bounced my old one on a padded steering wheel VERY LIGHTLY and it closed up, even with the LAWKS! I should have returned it but didn't... long story already discussed...

Good luck,

Mine has zero blade play open or closed. And mine will pass a pretty hard spine whack with or without the lawks engaged. Try tightening the pivot pin (torx size 7). If that doesn't help, or if it fails a spine whack, or if the blade scrapes the liners, send it back.

I hope this is not indicative of QC problems at CRKT, because I really like their products & prices. I had a small PG that would close with a one-finger tap on the blade (without LAWKS). The liner just slid right over and let it close. I returned it and the replacement is solid. Benchmade got into similiar trouble with spotty quality, and has a bad rep with that, I hope CRKT can keep themselves out of that quagmire.
