I have a Valloton with minor side to side blade play. Have you experienced blade play from any of your Spydercos?

Have you tried to adjust the pivot?

if its new have the pivot on the tight side and it will break in. if its just a little don't worry about it it won't matter. but i understand wanting a nice knife to be perfect.

Since it a high-end knife I didn't want to tinker. It is smooth on the opening and the lockup is excellent.

My other Spydercos don't seem to have any play, horizontal or vertical. My Gayle Bradley is a brick, rock solid, as are most of them.

I have never had to do anything but sharpen my Spydercos on my trusty Sharpmaker. I'm just wondering if this related to the unusual Valloton blade's shape.

Sure. IIRC it's always been due to a loose pivot screw or a frame screw. If it's due to the pivot, you made need to loc-tite the screw in place. If loc-tite doesn't work, do a better job cleaning the nut and the screw and try again...it will work :)

If you've always had a little play, but not when it's open, I'd just leave it alone. If you don't want to tinker with it, contact Spyderco and see what they say.

Thanks. I try your suggestions.

yep, it's not common but it happens. Have blade play on a few of my folders. None of them with noticeable play are new though.
In my experience it's either from improper pivot preload adjustment or just worn out mating surfaces...
