I'm curious, what do you consider blade play? I recently bought a really nice GEC barlow that I enjoy thoroughly. But there is a touch of blade play when I push on the blade sideways. But I mean, I have to give it a firm wobble to notice the play. I think that's probably not enough to qualify as a defect so I don't know if it's worth sending in.

Would you guys consider that a defect? If a knife exhibits play only when firmly wobbled? Or am I just being ridiculous?

I don't consider there to be an absolute right or wrong answer to that question. For me, if I don't notice it in actual use, it isn't an issue to em.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think that's a good rule, if I don't notice in use, it's good. I'm wondering though, seeing as this is my first GEC, how are they with fixing blade play? If in a few years I want them to fix it, will they do it for me? I'm alright if it costs a bit of money, just wondering if they offer that service.

Thanks.

They can easily fix blade play. i had a 42 and a 72 serviced for blade play and it was done perfectly (and in only twelve days). GEC has a great warranty service. It'll only cost you the postage to send it to them.

That's good to hear. Eases my mind in the sense that I can just use (properly, as a knife is intended to be used) and if it develops blade play, just get it serviced.

yes, yes, no
Send it in for service, you deserve a new knife with no reservations.
Gec has all the right equipment to send you back a tight shiny knife, it will make you smile.

I may do that. I did pay $100 for the knife, so I think it's reasonable for it to not wobble even if it's only very slight.
