Blade Polishing question

Ok...I am NOT a knife maker- but have a related question. I own a Gerber MK II wasp. It has never been used but I felt the need to touch up the edge and made the mistake of using a large DMT diamond steel and now I have scratches on the blade face. I've tried light metal polish and it didn't do anything- any ideas for how to proceed- or should I just take the plunge and find someone to mirror polish the whole thing? :)

I'd love to buff it out myself- but I would rather not cause more damage trying to fix what I already screwed up...and does anyone know of any good custom makers in Illinois who might take it for a polish if I decide to go that route?

thanks

Taking a knife to a buffer is the most dangerous operation a knifemaker does, so I would think twice about it. You could hit it with 220, 320, 400, 600 wet/dry sandpaper and give it a nice satin finish, too. That's not to dangerous as long as you don't cut your hand open while sanding (easy to do, trust me).
