Not knowing, I guess I did a dumb thing... I had a couple of spyderco and
cold steel folders in my boat for awhile where they developed a coat of
rust. I applied some liquid rust away to the blades and left them overnight.
Wow, now I have turned some nice blades to dull ones with dark spots. I have
tried some metal polish but is not working very well.

Appreciate any suggestions to polishing material and procedure that may rectify this
mistake.

I would suggest you get Happich Simichrome. I got mine at a motorcycle shop and it works great. You can also find it on the web.

If the knives pitted deep enough it is time to get out the sandpaper and hand rub the blades. Wrap the paper around a square block or file then move it the length of the blade.

Pay attention to the grind on hand sanding, though. If they're hollow grinding, then you'll need to form a sanding block to match the grind, or the paper without the block in that area.

make your self a wooden sanding stick, and sand with 600grt, or 400 them 600, if needed, and buff with whiite rouge, until you get a mirror that is not cloudy, and very bright.
