i have a cs recon1 folder that had a teflon coating. after some tuff jobs, the coating started wearing down and scratching off. i decided to sand it off and try to polish the blade... my results were ok, but not what i wanted

my question is; what are the steps required for a great mirror polished finish on a
aus8 blade? i went at it with 200grit then 400.. then i went on
to 0000 steel wool, and finished with some blue magic polishing
cream. i finished with a semi polished finish that im ok with but
not jumping for joy about. what should i do? did i skip to many
stages as far as grits on the sand paper?

btw, i searched for this topic and couldnt find what i was looking for, so i apologize if its already out there.

Well, from what I've read, its recommended to run the sandpaper grits up to 1500 or 2000 grit then going to some metal polish like mothers or flitz. But I've yet to do that. Mothers does work alright to bring back a mirror finish, like on a SAK, though.

Read hte link above, but I do have one question myself. Its mentioned to maintain 1 direction of sanding, but is there any advantage to sanding laterally or longitudinally?

thank u both.. i was pretty sure that i was going to need to go up to the finner grits.. i posted two pics of what it looks like now with what i have done so far.... up to 400grit and finished with my dremel with polishing cream

i think your finish is just fine now :) if you go for a mirror finish you will have to polish often to keep it.. my H1 scratches real easy now..

i used 600, 1000, 1200 and 1500 and then polishing paste

this is true, and it being one of my edcs, i don't think i would have the time to touch it up all the time
