Blade protection?

Just looking onto other options besides cerakote. From what i hear, most coatings will eventually come off. Although cerakote is one of the toughest, I still don't doubt it would come off. the other two things I was looking into was krylon painting and a forced patina. I haven't had experience with either, but they both seem relatively easy. Im in NC and I'm not right by the coast but we still don't have many dry days. Basically I just need some protection from rust, no matter how you cut it. I really like the look of forced patinas; I've seen some done by just putting the knife in grapefruit that looked great, but im not really sure how protective it is. Im still open to cerakote, but I'm also interested in other options. Curious to see what everyone would recommend... Thanks.

If you force a patina and keep oilled once in a while you should be fine.if you take care of your knife,it ll take care of you.of course i m on the other side of not many dry days here.

Forced patinas will not totally prevent rust.
My BK5 that has a natural patina is pretty rust resistant, but I forced a patina on a BK7 once and put it up. Next time I took it out it was showing signs of rust.
You'll still need to keep any bare metal oiled.
If you strip it and force a patina, just make sure you dry the blade and oil it after use. Mineral oil works good.
If you let it sit for awhile, make sure you check it every few weeks to see if it needs wiped down and reapply oil. Just a light coat will do fine.

Remember, with a forced patina, use it. All the time. The more you use it, and take care of it, the less chance you have of developing any of that red rust. I use my 14 for EVERYTHING. And my 10 gets a good workout a couple times a week. Both have stripped blades and patinas, and no rust issues. I live on the coast in California.

THanks for the input. Well since Forced patinas don't seem to offer a load of protection, I'm thinking about a clear coat of krylon. Im sure if I took care of the knife I wouldn't have any rust issues, but just exploring my options. I would do the clear coat of cerakote, but my applicator doesn't carry it. I just love the way that knife looks with a stripped blade every time I pull it out of the sheath. If I do the krylon, would i just spray it on and leave it, or should I bake it on?
