Blade Replacement Stamp

I’m sorry if this has been covered, I searched but wasn’t able to find an answer.

I recently acquired my first Buck knives. Two being new 283 and 285 Bantams, and a 1967-72 110, stamped “Buck U.S.A.” The blade on the 110 has seen better days. Whoever sharpened last really did a number on it. If I send the knife to Buck to have the blade replaced, will the stamping on the new blade be the same, or would it have the stamping for a current blade?

Also, if I send it in would it be possible to not get it polished? I like a good patina on brass. I’m assuming that wouldn’t be possible though, because of the pins, but didn’t think it would hurt to ask.

If you send it in for a blade replacement it would get a current model blade so you would not have the same stamp as it originally did. As to Buck polishing the handle they cannot replace the blade without at least
polishing the pivot end of the handle bolster. They drive out the blade pin from the bolster than after putting a new blade in place they drive a new brass pin in place than sand the pin flush with the bolster
than polish.

The new blade would be a 2020 year blade. Yes they will polish the brass for you.

The Patina comes right back. You can’t really stop it. Lol!

Be sure to ask them to leave the squared edges, or they may round it off.

As others have stated, you'll get a 2020 or 2021 420HC blade with 2020 or 2021 tang stamp.
They might be able to save the original blade, depending on a few factors. (is it sharpened to a toothpick, for example, would probably necessitate a new blade. They can restore an edge that's messed up, or a blade that has a lot of scratches.)
Your knife has a then standard 440C blade. Upgrading to a new S30V or other blade steel isn't an option. At least that is what I was told when I asked about sending in my circa 1974 2 dot for a reblade, and some other work.

Buck will do no more than what you ask for..Clean up and sharpen the blade if that's what you want and leave the rest of the knife alone or replace the blade leaving the rest of the knife untouched. It's up to you. Just give them clear instructions for your preferences. Most folks who request a reblade have the knife given the full Spa treatment but Buck will honor your instructions and preferences.
