So I stocked up on 21s in preparation for their discontinuation, including a small KA carbon fiber with damascus blade. I'm not a fan of the blue hardware w/ damascus and want to send it in for stud replacement.

While filling out the service form on the CRK website it make's one sign a waiver that if the blade cracks during replacement they will replace it with a S35VN!

I'm curious if this is new or has it always been the case?

Anybody have stories about stud replacement, good or bad?

It’s relatively new. I have had only good luck swapping all of my Damascus blades to silver. That being said there is a chance of damage to the blade and there are no longer replacements available for them so they had to add that.
S35 replacement blades are now available again.

At one point they actually told me that they no longer did swaps on damascus blades while my knife was out there for a swap. I had to write in an email that I was okay with an S35 blade replacement if anything happened. Shortly after that they added the waiver to the website.
They are definitely listening to their customers and working out ways to make us happy. I’m super excited that you can buy replacement blades for the 21s again.

So maybe I missed it, but how do you know about the 21 blades being available for purchase again?

This is really great news! Thanks for sharing the info about the replacement blades.

Silverstonev8 Silverstonev8 Thank you, these are exactly the type of anecdote I was looking to collect!

BD_01 BD_01 When filling out the service form on the CRK website, blade replacement is listed as an option in the "add parts" section.

sailfish sailfish That's basically what I'm weighing right now: Is it better to risk the blade cracking during a swap or messing up the etch and/or stud trying to polish off the blue myself...

Personally I wouldn’t risk damaging the etching by doing it myself. That’s what actually got me to send my first one in to be swapped instead of doing it myself like I had on a couple of s35. At this point they have done at least 20 successful lug swaps for me on damascus blades.

Doesn't the anodizing come off pretty easily with just normal use over time? I see lots of pics of well-loved Sebenzas where the anodization is pretty heavily faded or completely gone. You might consider just sitting on the couch and rubbing the thumbstud for a few hours while watching a movie or TV.

It wears away but never to the shiny silver of a stock silver stud. Plus the backside of the lug doesn't fade much in my experience.

I was told by customer service and actually have a couple 21s on the way there for blade replacements.
It should be added back to the site as an option soon.

Can I send in my small 21 to get an Insingo bladed fitted know then?
