Blade Replacements For Discontinued Knives

I was wondering the other day, and then again today, when I had to opportunity to pick up a couple of old classics at reasonable prices -- notwithstanding the fact that they had blade damage of one kind or another -- and I was wondering if Buck is able to replace blades from models no longer in production.

For example, I found a 307 with a damaged sheepsfoot blade (broken tip), and another one with a damaged main blade. I'm guessing that the factory guys don't fabricate replacement blades for discontinued models, but I wondered if there's a stock of older replacement blades for this sort of thing.

Another thing I ran across was a 500 -- with a broken tip -- in otherwise usable condition.

Is there another blade that's a drop-in replacement for the 500 blade?

In general, is it possible to repair an "obsolete" knife from the goode olde dayes?

Your best bet would be to call Joe at Buck and check and see if they had any blades you were needing. From most of the post on here I think most or all of the blades are used up. You might also want to watch for another used knife with a good blade you are needing and buy it, for blade swap.Hope this helps.

Joe took my USA twin-bladed Ecco back with him to Post Falls from OKCA to replace one of the blades. A challenge due to the plastic handle and its chance of splitting. This knife has been disco for a long time. I'll post results when available.

I have to agree with bucksforus, Its a crap shoot. The best idea is call or email Joe. It all depends on if they have the part you need. Some times they can reprofile the blade and sharpen it to give you something usable.

The blade I want replace on the ECCO had been reprofiled and sharpened before I decided a blade replacement would suit me best. After the reprofiling the, now shorter, blade could easily catch and open in my pocket and/or catch and cut my finger while fishing the pocket for it or other stuff. The decision to seek a blade replacement was safety based of the user.

You can always keep an eye on the auction sites, buy a cheap knife with the blade you need and send them both back to Buck and have the good one taken out of the cheap knife and put into the user you have. Cannibalizing knives is always a good option.

My first Buck, bought 25+ years ago, broke a good part of the tip off...A Prince?? Just tossed it away...

Here's a pic of a 701 I picked up with a broken tip on the sheepsfoot...I re-profiled the blade and it's now a great user...

On discontinued knives I have sent e-mail questions through the "contact us" link on Buck's home page...They allways got back to me on whether replacement parts were available or not...ie: I needed an ATS34 blade replaced on an Odessey...They had one and did replace it! The Duke has been dis continued for a while but I have seen customs out there of recent MFG. I'd be willing to bet they have blades for that model...again an e-mail or call would confirm that.

I sent one in quite some time back. They just replaced it with a similar knife.
Was a 300 series something or other.
