Have you seen this?
Cool story on YAHOO'S home page, the guy's name is Oscar Pistorious. He runs on carbon fiber BLADES.
They are trying to say he has an advantage over the others.
Well hell let them loose there legs, and they could get some BLADES too.

Wow!! Now THAT is amazing!! The power of the human spirit never ceases to amaze me!!

Err... yes? They do that a lot. Or are we talking about the material, that it's somehow different compared to regulars?

Heck, I'm talking about the whole story.
Man with no legs going to run against some of the fastest in the world.
I have two legs and I don't think I can catch him?
And yes his new legs, they call them blades. cool.

Good on that guy!

His advantage....? Maybe more surface area on those things than running shoes on which to put future product endorsements . :D :D :D

A man without a leg(s) is not so much handicapped assuming he still has his knees. But, if the leg(s) is amputated above the knee, its a different story.
When I hear or see an accident, I always pray the person keeps their knee(s).

They are probably complaining that the material and configuration has a spring effect which helps him. However, they have ankles, feet, and calf muscles to provide drive, and he doesn't.

More power to him!

Wheelchair racers are faster than runners. One-legged ski racers are faster too.

I have a carbon fiber foot to provide that spring action, at the end of a metal shin. The problem isn't in the foot technology but in the stump and its padding. Even at walking speed, any irritation is dangerous.

... they have ankles, feet, and calf muscles to provide drive, and he doesn't.

The first thing they do after an amputation like that is to get you exercizing the quadriceps of the thigh, since your thigh muscles will be doing the work that the foot-ankle-calf used to provide.

At least my latest prosthesis has a flexible foot-ankle that adjusts for irregular ground, but my knees really take a beating. My fault. I should have gotten back into bicycling.
