Blade scrapes the liners....

Got my Boker Brend today from Copfish. Real quick service, Copfish is a great guy. Well the knife is great, but there are some minor problems. The blade scrapes the liners when I open it and the sound of it scraping against the liners makes me cringe every time I open it. How should I go about fixing this problem? Those little small scratches are kind of obnoxious.

Hey Chang,

I think I touched upon this issue in your other post on the Boker BTF a few days back. Is it favoring the liner on the clip side? If so, try removing the clip and its two retaining screws first and see if the blade returns to center. That was my initial problem with the knife.

You can either do what I've done and that's just removing the clip altogether and carry it in my back pocket. Or you can back the clip screws out a bit and then lightly adjust the detent on the main blade screw. Some of my buddies had the exact same problem and when I suggested the above steps to them...that seem to have helped them. It's really weird that these two small clip screws when tightened into the tough titanium bolster would force the blade off center. Other than that it's a great little knife. Good luck!

Actually, I did that right before I read it, then put the clip back because I couldn't live without it. The knife does favor the clip side because the screw pushed the liner near the bolsters in and the blade moved to the other side. Weird. Fit and finish seems a little uneven, and that clip thing is annoying, but it seems like an OK knife for $60.

Well, is yours the model #2055 with G-10 scales and the titanium bolsters? Mine is the model #2056 with the cocobolo scales. They're the same is design. If you take off the clip again, take a look at the seam where the bolster and scale comes together. After I took my clip off, that seam is flush. No more raised edges and corners.

Yeah, the clip situation is a real downer, especially if you really need it. I actually like the feel of the knife without the clip. I normally carry my knives tip up anyways. Well, good luck and let me know if you come across a better fix.

Yeah, I think I might just return it to Copfish if possible (or trade it for something else from him if he is willing to do that, since I already sent my money order out before I got the knife). I don't know... I was expecting something a lot better from a Boker and Brend collaboration knife. The fit and finish just doesn't seem right for a $100 retail price knife (even though I got it for $60, so I might just be obnoxiously picky, sorry if I am

) Understand that this knife being not up to my expectations is in no way Copfish's fault. It seems that the problems with this knife are common to many Boker BTF's. Copfish did a great job getting the knife to me. He was very patient with my complete lack of any common sense (I forgot how to address an envelope, forgot how much it costed to ship a letter, had no clue what those blue USPS boxes on the corners of streets were for, and I'm not kidding about any of this. I seriously didn't know any of that stuff.

For some reason, I feel kind of lame for taking Copfish's time and then deciding I didn't really want to keep the knife (especially after sending the money order first and so it'll be more complex to return). But I guess when you are a fifteen year old Asian janitorial apparatus, with no job (therefore very little money), $60 means more to you.

maybe the screws are a tad too long and are going thru and hitting the washer??? dont know cause i cant see the knife...other thing..make sure the pivot screw is snug.. this is a likely culprit for off centered blade.

My suggestion would be to take the screws out and make em a little shorter with a dremel

Yeah, but when I got it, there were two easily noticeable scratches on the liner lock side and a couple little tiny ones too. Presumably from light handling (when it scraped the liner). This normally wouldn't make me return something (thats just being anal), but the bolsters on the liner lock side creak and feels funny as it rubs the g10 scale section. It just feel weird. And the fit and finish overall was just not what I expected from Boker, a little subpar compared to the fit n' finish on the toplocks I saw.

I would say return it to Boker for their lifetime warranty service (that is if you got it from a dealer or someone who didn't register it)--that's what I did because my first knife was doing the same thing. Write a detailed letter too. My philosophy is if customers keep complaining straight to the maker, eventually they will improve the breed in general--and that will make it better for the next guy who goes out to buy a knife.

Boker got a better knife out to me--now it's my daily carry (I also don't have tons of money to spend on knives). I haven't tried to play with the clip off because that is how I prefer to carry the knife.
These problems are not what I've come to expect from Boker, and I think as many dissatisfied customers as possible should talk to them directly.

Well a thing I found works sometimes is to hold the knife horizontally with the liner lock facing you and then to loosen the screws holding the back end of the knife together. Next slide the top scale to the left while sliding the bottom one to the right. Or vice versa depending on which scale the blade scrapes on. You'll have to use a little pressure in doing this. Then hold it tight and tighten the screws back up.
