I'm going to join the modern world ...sort of. I need to make a new Recreational knife. This will be for Kayaking, fishing, mountain biking and assorted other things I may get wet in.

I'm going to make some linen Micarta for it and the blade will be made from carbon steel (I'm joining the modern world, not surrendering to the spinner bait steel)

The blade is going to be 3 inches or so.

Anyone have any nifty blade shapes they've made. So far I'm still stuck in the drop point frame of mind.

I like recurves. Here's one I just did with 440c and green micarta.

Go through the motions that each task, you will be doing, requires. The design and shape of the knife you need to fill the bill will pop into your head, like magic. Simply but effective. Fred

Mr. Rowe has agreat idea. I like the Warncliffe. Try Mr. Rowes idea with the warncliffe in mind and see if it works out. Randy

Maybe a Wharny shape with a bit of a hook to it similar to a Byrd Crossbill or Tasman Salt by Spyderco but not quite as aggressive in the curve. You know just mild enough in the curve of the blade to allow it to cut rope and stuff a little better but still be easy to sharpen. You might even consider serrating the tip some to make it even better at reaching out and cutting rope and softer materials.
