Blade shape vs thickness for 22" D handled machete

I know they aren't truly swords, but my intended use for them (defending from snakes in the central american rain forest, hacking up zombies, and occasional small (tree) limb removal) involves more slashing than chopping. I am looking for input trying to decide whether a 2.6mm thick slightly curved blade of 1055 steel (Cold Steel Cutlass Machete) would be better or worse than a 3.175 mm straight blade of 1095 steel (OKC D handle machete).

OR should I be looking at something more expensive like the various Condor offerings? Longer, and thinner(2.38mm) with a nifty leather sheath, 1075 steel.

Or is there an inexpensive, at least 22" option that I am missing.

Mods, it there is a better forum for this please move it for me.

Thanks,
--Chris

My own preferences would be the thicker blades with harder steel. I don't know what Ontario uses for the handle materials these days but most modern stuff will be less prone to cracking. However, a lot of modern materials are less hand friendly after a bit if use (wear gloves). Longer may seem better but can be less perceived advantage than one might think. For a serious machete, I would think the basic 18" Ontario would be just fine.

Cheers
